Oikawa sniffled. “I will. I promise. Write to me okay? I want real letters. I’ll write back. I’ll call you every night too if you want me to.”
“I’ll write. I promise, and call whenever I can.” They slowly let go of the hug, but their arms were still slightly wrapped around each other. Oikawa found himself leaning down slightly, and Iwaizumi tilted his face up, and one of his hands moved to cup Oikawa’s cheek, until their lips met in a light kiss. It was a little hesitant, and for a moment neither of them was sure what to do before they slowly pulled away.

Silence.
Kageyama’s mouth drops, and he frowns, not sure if he heard it right. “What?”
He hears Hinata sigh, “I said: I used to like you.”
Kageyama blinks and stares at him, speechless, trying to figure out what to reply to that because what the heck? He blinks again and thinks, what the heck?
What the actual heck.
“This, hold on, huh, what—since, since when…?”
“Since we were fourteen.”

For ten years, Kageyama has been quietly yearning for his best friend. He’s resolved to stand by and play the role of best man for Hinata and Atsumu upcoming wedding, but when drunken confessions stirs up forgotten and buried feelings, it leaves them both questioning and burning for more.
The embers left by a dead fire glows but they burn all the same.
