Summary
Cheng Xiaoshi, along with fellow Slayers and Hunters of his Monastery, is dispatched to dispose of a vampire menace within their territory.
They find the vampire Lu Guang.
They manage to capture it alive and ensnare it for the rare opportunity to perform thorough research, study, and experimentation, followed by execution - if it happens to survive long enough.
However, Cheng Xiaoshi is a talented enough Slayer to impress an alternative upon the Council: that he instead be allowed to take custody of the vampire personally and acquaint himself intimately with it for the purpose of understanding vampires as sentient beings.
They permit him, under the agreement that he will prevent it from hurting anyone, and it will drink only his blood.
And furthermore, if it takes even a single step across the laws of the church, God forbid actually harm anyone, they reserve the right to put it to death, and Cheng Xiaoshi for failing as well.

Summary
The link between them was only supposed to be present during dives.
But when Lu Guang goes quiet for a little too long, and Cheng Xiaoshi panics, they find that their powers are able to do more than they originally thought.
(Or in other words, their powers literally telling them to just kiss already, at the very least, if not bang).

Summary
There is something intimate about being in somebody’s head. For Cheng Xiaoshi, it is all the people who come with their stories, from whose eyes he learns to care for many other people in all those many lives.
But for Lu Guang, there is no one else whose head he's in. There is no one else whose thoughts he hears, whose feelings he feels when he watches all these things unfold. It is always only Cheng Xiaoshi.
