Should not be thinking it in the first place. Should not be smoking. He should be asleep with Shane, cradled in his husband’s touch and air and warmth.
But even the warmth feels dulled lately, chilled to an aching distance from it, and Ilya hates himself for thinking this way.

Shane hates that he’s always thinking about Ilya. It was bad before he got sick, and it’s even worse now. The only thoughts that seem able to break past the cloud are Ilya. Ilya’s musk. Ilya’s warmth. Ilya’s eyes, his smile, his hair, his golden cross shining against the dim lights of hotel rooms.
It’s not fair, Shane thinks. None of it is.
