The punch he throws back feels like self defense, but not in the physical sense.
Their blows are so familiar at this point that Mu Qing thinks he could identify which fist is Feng Xin’s if he were to punch him in a lineup of ten people. He thinks Feng Xin could probably do the same for him.
The two know each other in violence, and only in violence.

The title is clearly one Xie Lian is meant to recognize, so it is unfortunate then that the only ‘Lan’ he has ever heard of is some man named ‘Lan Wangji.’
As described by his husband, Lan Wangji was apparently a ‘pathetic man who made dumbass mistakes.’
Xie Lian doesn’t know how that knowledge is supposed to help him in this situation.

Wei Wuxian lets out a huff, and in a different setting it might’ve been a laugh.
“Please,” he repeats, instead of addressing her comment.
With his hands clasped over her own, he guides the scalpel over his bare chest. Wen Qing is forced forward slowly, and every step she takes forward is another inch that Wei Wuxian lays down closer to the earth.
That feels like it means something, but Wen Qing just isn’t sure what.
