Aizen fell completely. His body collapsed heavily, his head hitting the floor once more, and the blood continued to spread — a dark, glistening pool growing under the lantern light, slowly absorbed by the tatami fabric.
Gin didn't blink.
He stood still. Motionless. The cup still in his hand. His chest rising and falling. Aizen's body convulsed for a few more seconds — grotesque spasms, legs twisting, fingers clawing at the tatami — and then stopped.
Silence.
The most absolute silence Gin had ever heard in his entire life.
Aizen Sousuke was dead.
Gin sank to his knees. His legs simply couldn't hold him anymore.
"...Huh."
It wasn't a laugh. It wasn't a cry. It was a hollow, empty sound that escaped his throat without permission.

The question came from within, as if someone else had whispered it in his ear.
