Finding the answers to everything he wanted to know would have been as easy as ripping off Mando's silvery dome and sorting his prize from the rubble, but that was child's play. Boring to use a better descriptor. Getting Mando to share them himself would be far more meaningful for their relationship going forward; a relationship Galen aimed to nurture because he was going to enjoy this man for a very long time.
Maybe even forever.
That was why he came up with a devious plan. He was going to rack Mando in so much denial he begged him to take the helmet off for a chance at release. Lust so all-encompassing he gave away his every secret voluntarily.

Summary
The Force is hateful, which is why the Rebel ship is gone when Maul returns to the place of its former position. Ezra must sense Maul’s building rage because he yawns and tries to catch a fluttering moth that passes by his head with a total lack of success. Maul murmurs vitriol into his temple as he takes both of them in angry lines across the field until the heat overtaking the back of his head has more or less burned itself out.
He’s calm. He’s calm, he’s fine, he’s calm. One cannot explode into sun-levels of radiant fury when one is carrying a body susceptible to sunburn.
“Your crew is dead to me,” he tells Ezra, who responds with inarticulate babble in an agreeable tone.
(Maul acquires a de-aged baby Ezra and looks after him for a little while until he can reunite him with his friends.)

He notices the way that the general will lurk outside of the medbay, like a puppy kicked out of the dining hall, until the commander comes out. He notices the way that the general’s hands reach out, as if to touch and skim along whatever body part was hurt on his apprentice, only to retract at something she tells him.

"It hurts to watch someone you respect and admire become someone nasty and hateful just because you've exposed some side of them they can't bear to see. Of course he doesn't mean to hurt him, but Kanji is goddamn sick of paying for Yosuke's emotional baggage."
