Summary
After Jack turns the corner of his truck, he stops in his tracks when he sees you. His breath hitches for a minute, and he quickly adjusts his tie. He tries to play it cool, the way he always does whenever he’s in public with you, but you can see his ears turning red. You feel powerful and sexy, knowing that he’s quietly trying not to lose his mind.
“Hey.” You hold your hand out to him. Without hesitation, he brings your hand to his mouth, pressing a feather-like kiss to your hand. The sensation sends goosebumps up your arm. “Like my dress?”
He exhales, chuckling and shaking his head. “Like it? Sweetheart, I’m gonna be dreaming about this dress for fucking weeks.”

Summary
“I don’t call you kid because I think you’re stupid. I don’t think you’re stupid. You’d know if I thought you were stupid, because I would tell you. ‘Kid’ is a…” He trails off, free hand tapping thoughtful rhythms on the steering wheel, “…Nickname. Term of endearment. Whatever you want to call it, but it’s not derogatory.”
Jack holds up a second finger.
“You have not been taking care of yourself. If you were, you wouldn’t have a low grade fever, and you would’ve called me as your boss or one of your friends to drive you instead of walking to work in the rain after your car died. You’ve been surviving. There’s a difference.”

Summary
“Hey you,” Jack Abbot’s voice is deep, assured, so different from the panicked shouts that you are used to hearing. “Couldn’t resist calling me, huh?”
“You got me. That and the drug bust gone wrong.” You say drily into your headset, “Glad you could finally join us, Dr. Abbot.”
“Aw, you know I can never say no to you, darling.” Jack says, and a chorus of hoots and hollers sound over the radiowaves.
“Stay off the comms.” The SWAT captain growls, “This is a high-risk operation.”

Summary
“You got married for the healthcare benefits?”
“Anything to game the system.” You shrugged, and Jack nodded in agreement without hesitation.Or, you find yourself in need of a life saving surgery, and Jack finds himself with fantastic healthcare, a spare bedroom, and a free day to go to the courthouse and take advantage of the health insurance spousal benefits. Who's to say a marriage can't be a little agreement between totally platonic, not at all romantic, never-going-to-get-crushes-on-each-other coworkers?

Summary
Samira wakes up on her first day off in a week to an email from Jack in her inbox.
It’s a video. From the thumbnail, she knows that Jack finally got a chance to look at their message thread at the end of his own stressful and hectic shift, and went home to pour himself a drink. He hasn’t bothered to change out the thick black tee shirt that he owns at least ten of, made out of some kind of indestructible cotton blend fabric that stands up to blood and color safe bleach. His scruff is verging on a beard, his curls wild even though she can tell he’s just gotten a haircut.
The email has no subject, but in the body is simply: Be a good girl and make yourself come for me. Love you.

Summary
It’s comical. Or, it would be comical if it wasn’t happening to him. Six months after Samira Mohan badged out of her final shift at the Pitt, it has become kind of, sort of comical that she will respond to everyone’s text messages and emails but Jack's own.
Or, Samira Mohan has a history of reading relationships wrong.
