Summary
Niles watches on; the longer Takumi ignores him, the harder it gets to look away.
Overhead, yet another old vent rattles with the force of the air conditioner, turning Niles's tea cold. When his throat becomes too dry to bear, he downs it in one go. Sweet cherry, cloying and balmy, coats his tongue but turns sour in his throat. He's been away too long, he suddenly realizes.
