Work Text:
Inui tried to not pay you too much attention. You two were friends, sure, but he always kept you at an arm's length, refusing to let you get too close. Not that you ever noticed, as you were always involved with someone else, most of your friendships put on the backburner.
But that didn’t mean that he didn’t like you, because, truthfully, you were hard not to like. Hard not to fall in love with. Your jokes–even the worst ones–made him laugh, and seeing you happy always brought a genuine smile to his face. Inui could admit that he was likely biased when it came to you, seeing you through rose-colored glasses, but it was hard to care when he was hit with a surge of dopamine the second you came around.
Even the times that you showed up to the shop, complaining about another failed relationship or gushing about your latest beau, Inui was just grateful to be around you, trying to push down the longing in his heart.
The chiming at the door alerted Inui that someone walked into the shop, so he made his way back out to the front, “Welcome–” His words stopped the moment he looked upon your face, tears clinging to your lower lashes. You made a beeline for him, your frown deeper than he had ever seen.
“He dumped me! I thought things were going so well and then” –you took a deep breath to keep from crying all over again– “he just up and left! Tells me he’s tired of our relationship then walks out the door!”
Draken was usually the one to offer you good advice and emotional support while Inui just listened, but Draken wasn’t around, leaving Inui to be the one to comfort you. It really wasn’t his strong suit, but he wasn’t about to turn you away in a time of need, so he brought you into a gentle hug, hoping that the action was smoother than it felt. The moment his arms were around you, you wrapped your own arms around him and held onto him tightly, face buried into his shoulder. You mumbled something that he was unable to make out, so he slightly pulled away.
“What was that?”
Slowly, you lifted your head away from him, “I said that guys are dumb anyways.” Your cheeks were slightly puffed up and Inui let out a quiet laugh.
“Can’t argue there.”
“And, I certainly don’t need him around… I’ll have fun without him.”
You kept your arms wrapped around him, looking as though you were lost in thought. Inui tried to ignore how perfect you seemed to fit him, tried not to take notice of your nice scent, or the curve of your lips. This was a time to be comforting you, not admiring you, but leave it to you to make this more difficult for him. Had Inui been alone, he would’ve thrown himself back into his work just to stop thinking about you, but that was impossible when you still tightly held onto him.
“Oh!” You suddenly ripped away from Inui, a surprised look on your face as you quickly wiped away any remaining tears. “Let’s go do something! Like…uhm… bowling! Yeah!”
“Bowling?” Inui parted from you, trying to understand the flow of the conversation. One moment you were nearly in tears and the next you’re telling him that you want to go bowling of all things.
You nodded your head, “Yeah! I don’t need him to have fun when I have my friends!” You gave him a cheeky smile and Inui was sure that his heart nearly melted right then and there, but then the smile faded, replaced by a more sullen look, “Plus, it would get my mind off of things.” You took a look around the store before your eyes widened again, “Once you’re off of work of course! If you’re up for it…”
The store was empty, save for the two of you, and Inui didn’t have that much left to work on. He looked back towards the storeroom before turning back to you and answering, “I’m sure Draken won’t mind if I close up a bit early. We can head over in a minute.”
Your eyes practically lit up as you clasped your hands in front of you, “You’re the best!”
The best might be a stretch, is what he wanted to say, Inui was content with being the one by your side, even if just for tonight.
“Ya know” –you took a sip of your slushy– “when I suggested bowling, I wasn't expecting to get beat that badly. It’s almost embarrassing.” When Inui laughed, you shot him a look, “Almost!”
“Well, I’m better than I thought. Or maybe you’re just really bad,” he spoke in a deadpan manner but when you turned your head to look over at him, you saw the traces of a smile on his lips, causing you to break out in a grin yourself.
“Yeah, yeah. Whatever.”
The both of you stopped in front of your apartment, neither one saying anything for a moment. It was quite dark out, the two of you staying at the bowling alley a lot longer than either of you anticipated. Not that Inui minded, very much enjoying his time with you and if your own expressions were anything to go by, Inui was sure that you had fun too.
“Do you wanna come in?” Your voice was kinda rushed, scared that he’d reject you and you’d be left alone to deal with your thoughts. “I got some drinks. Snacks, too, if you want any.”
There was that look in your eye again, the one that makes you hard to say no to, though Inui can’t imagine himself even rejecting a chance to hang out with you. So, he nodded, letting you lead the way up to your place.
After you let the both of you in, you ushered him over to the couch, nearly pushing him down onto the seat. While you got the drinks, Inui took a look around your place; it was clean, but clearly lived in, and there were traces of you all over the living room. On one wall, there were a bunch of photos featuring you and your friends, most being people he knew as well. Next to that was a shelf that held a few potted plants, each one having a little sticky note attached to the pot saying ‘water me!’
Getting a glimpse of your personal life like this seemed nice, and honestly, it was unexpected. Before he could look around any more, you came back over to the couch, handing him a glass. You sat beside him, looking at him with an expression he wasn’t able to decipher.
“So… tell me what ya think.”
Inui moved the drink away from his face, looking at you quizzically, “Think of what?”
You gestured towards his glass. “Of the drink. Mitsuya gave me a big thing of it a while back. Never tried it before though.”
Inui took a sip of it, letting the flavor settle on his tongue before giving you an answer. “It’s fine.”
“Fine?” You gave him a look of slight disbelief before taking a big gulp from your own glass, “Huh, I guess you’re right… nothing to write home about.” You took another sip before adding, “But, it’s better than nothing and I’m not about to let Mitsuya’s gift go to waste!”
Inui watched as you downed the contents in your own glass as he took another small drink of his own. When you finished, you went back over to the kitchen to bring the entire bottle to the couch, filling up your glass once more. As you started to down your drink again, Inui set his own glass down before reaching a hand out to you, fingers gently touching your wrist.
“Hey, hey. You don’t need to drink it all in one go.” Reluctantly, you moved the glass away from you and for the first time all night, Inui saw that broken look in your eyes, the same one you had when you stormed into the bike shop earlier in the day. He knew that spending hours together doing something fun wasn’t going to suddenly make your problems disappear, but he did hope that it would at least help.
You swirled the dark drink around in your glass, staring at it while thinking hard on what to say. “Thanks… for hanging out with me, I mean. It means a lot.”
“It was fun, even if you do suck at bowling.”
Your lips curved into the smile that he loved to see as you rolled your eyes at him, “I don’t suck at bowling. I’m starting to think that you just cheated.”
“Why would I need to cheat when you could hardly even keep the bowling ball in your lane?”
You laughed at that remark, “Okay, now you’re just making me sound bad!”
When the laughter died down, the two of you sat together in a comfortable silence, slowly finishing the glasses full of the wine gifted by Mitsuya. Inui wasn’t sure what to say, and by the looks of it, you didn’t have much to say either, opting to slouch back on the couch with a lazy smile on your face. Before Inui could even ask what was on your mind, you spoke up.
“Wanna watch a movie?”
Watching whatever B-rated movie you had put on only lasted so long. At some point, you had laid your head on his shoulder, but when you sat up to make a joke about another cheesy line from the movie, the two of you had nearly frozen up looking at each other. Inui wasn’t sure if it was you or him who leaned in for a kiss first, but all he knew was that he loved the taste of your lips; the wine from earlier had hardly gotten him tipsy, but he was sure he’d get drunk off of you right then and there.
You climbed into his lap, breaking the kiss for a second before bringing him back in for another one. Inui’s hands hovered over your hips, unsure of what exactly you would feel comfortable with; and truthfully, a part of him expected you to pull away from the kiss at any moment and explain that this was just some joke. But, when you nearly threw your own arms around the back of his neck, bringing him closer to you, he tossed all doubt out the window. His fingers nearly dug into you, the desperation in his grip making you giggle a little.
Inui pulled away, looking at you with a small smile, “What’s so funny?”
“Nothing! This is just really nice, that’s all.” You couldn’t hide your smile from him even if you wanted to. Brushing away a few strands of hair from his face, the look on your face had his heart racing so fast that he was sure that you could hear it. This time, when you leaned it for a kiss, you were a lot gentler, your hand settling against his jaw.
Inui closed his eyes, just focusing on the taste of you, until you ground your pelvis into him, causing his eyes to fly open in surprise. His reaction must’ve been obvious, because you pulled away, worry etched onto your face.
“I’m sorry! Was that too much? You can just tell me, really–”
Inui knew the telltale signs of the beginnings of your ramblings, and as much as he liked your voice, he wasn’t exactly in the mood for chatting, not when he had just been able to kiss you. His hands gently, but firmly guided you back to him, and he gave you the most reassuring smile that he could muster up.
“It’s fine. More than fine, to be honest,” Inui said as he leaned forward to capture your lips once more. His words must’ve upped your confidence, because you slowly began to grind against him, occasionally letting out a quiet moan. His pants began to get tighter, and Inui knew you felt it, too, when you smiled against the kiss and started dragging your crotch over it at a fast pace.
You pulled away, moving off his lap and onto the floor, settling between his legs. Your hands slid up his thighs and to the hem of his pants, your fingers barely slipping under to rub his skin in a way that had him almost losing his breath. Inui would be lying if he said he hadn’t thought of you in such a position before, but to have the real thing right in front of him almost made him wonder if this was all some dream. But, you had looked so, so much better than any of the little fantasies Inui had conjured up of you late at night when he was alone.
You peeked up at him through your lashes as you moved your mouth closer to his hips, “Can I taste you? Please?”
Those words alone were nearly enough to have Inui melting; he couldn’t believe that he was lucky enough to have you wanting him in such a way… the way that he had been craving you for so long. But, as amazing as it would be to have your mouth around him, he reminded himself that this night was about you. You had been the one hurting today, not him. If anyone deserved a treat, it was you.
Inui shook his head as he grabbed one of your hands, “Tonight’s about you. Let me take care of you.”
Your eyes widened in surprise for only a second, before you broke out in a grin, “I suppose I can’t turn down such a generous offer from you.” You got up from the ground to sit back on the couch, while Inui placed himself where you had just been on your knees. “Don’t you wanna sit up on the couch with me?”
Inui placed his hands on your knees as he looked up at you, “I think I like the view from right here.”
You giggled, silently agreeing that you, too, like the view; Inui on his knees for you was not something you had thought would happen tonight, but you couldn’t complain. You lifted your hips as Inui pulled off your bottoms, putting them off to the side. Having a part of yourself bare to your friend suddenly made you feel self conscious, your confidence from minutes ago nearly disappearing in a few seconds.
Despite the strong urge to close your legs and cover up, you couldn’t deny that the look that Inui was giving you was turning you on, so you kept them open, eyes locked onto the man in front of you. Inui lifted up your leg, pressing a soft kiss to your ankle, another on your calf, and then trailed up to kiss your inner thigh. He kept his lips there before slowly moving his lips to your cunt.
He looked up at you as he licked up your slit before allowing his tongue to settle on your clit. He swirled his tongue around, causing you to tilt your head back as you let out a breathy moan. You focused on nothing but the way he was making you feel, toes slightly curling with every swipe of his tongue. Without warning, Inui pressed a finger against your hole, and you looked back down at him.
“Can I–”
“Do it,” your voice coming off a lot more demanding than you intended. You watched as Inui slowly put a finger inside of you, before dragging it back out, only to do it all over again. Inui then added in another finger, his eyes snapping back up to you to watch your expression change. His fingers slid in and out, curling up inside of you to reach that spongy spot that had you moaning out his name.
Inui’s thumb lightly rubbed your clit, his eyes continuing to watch only you. Suddenly, your hand shot out, fingers tangling into his hair, as you pulled his face back to your pussy.
“You–ah–said you’d take care of me, yeah? Do that.”
Despite the harsh hold you had on him, it didn’t feel bad. If anything, Inui could feel himself getting more worked up over it. He was sure to play this moment over and over again in the future, knowing that his daydreams with you will now be changed.
Inui’s mouth was back on you almost immediately as he continued to move his fingers at a rhythmic pace. You had let go of his hair only to grab it again a second later, causing Inui to let out a noise that was something in between a groan of pain and a moan of pleasure. You moved one of your legs to rest on his shoulder as you brought your other hand up to your face.
“Fuck–Inui! I’m so–” You couldn’t even finish your sentence, eyes nearly rolling back as Inui continued to pleasure you. Finally, you came undone, Inui’s fingers continuing to fuck you through your high.
You took a moment to catch your breath before opening your eyes back to Inui, your juices covering his mouth and chin. You leaned forward, smiling at him as you grabbed his chin, your thumb swiping over his lips before pushing it into his mouth.
“Inui,” you took your thumb out of his mouth and leaned back against the couch, “you really know how to make a friend feel better.” As he stood up, you reached out and grabbed his shirt. “Let me return the favor?”
You had only texted him once after he left, simply reminding him to let you know when he made it home and thanking him again for the fun night.
‘You made what could’ve been a difficult day a lot better!’
Inui had stared at that text for the next week, rereading it over and over again whenever you popped up in his mind. He wasn’t dumb enough to think that the two of you would suddenly fall in love and get together when you had literally just gottem dumped, but a part of him had hoped that you might’ve felt some spark after your night together.
Inui had been a bit quieter at the shop, hoping each day that you’d come in, but you hadn’t. Draken had asked him if something was wrong a few times, but each time, he just waved the question away.
After nearly two weeks of waiting for something, you bounded in, a large grin on your face as you walked over to where Inui and Draken stood.
“Hey! Is it finished?” You looked over at Draken, who nodded and took you over to a bike that they had just fixed up.
“Yeah, we just got done with it. You getting the keys?”
You opened your mouth, looking as though you were trying to find the right words before settling with a simple yes.
Draken went over to the rack they kept keys on before handing one to you while shaking his head disapprovingly, “Can’t believe you agreed to get back with that idiot. If it were up to me–”
“If it were up to you, you’d have me in here working with you two, not having time for any dates. Besides, I kicked his ass when he showed back up at my door, if that makes you feel any better.”
“You kicked his ass and then agreed to date him again?” Draken’s frown only deepened.
“Well,” you looked off to the side as you fought a smile, “I made sure he made it up to me.”
Inui watched as you and Draken went back and forth for a few minutes more, his head still trying to process things.
It’s no wonder you hadn’t come by; you were too focused on a relationship again. And not just any relationship, but the same guy you were crying about to him. Inui had spent each day thinking of you, while you were probably so focused on this other man, with Inui likely not even on your radar anymore.
With the way you didn’t even act like anything had happened between you two, hardly even looking at him, Inui began to wonder if that night on your couch had been nothing more than a dream. But right before you left, you glanced over at him and just from the look of guilt on your face, Inui was reassured that it had all been very real; that you had experienced that time with him and still chose someone else. Though it hurt, Inui couldn’t blame you. He was the one who had decided that he wouldn’t get too close with you, yet had done the opposite, and it ended up letting him hope that even for a second that maybe things could work out between you two.
You weren’t his, and this solidified that you would never be his. So, he’d go back to pushing down his longing for you, pretending that the night where you were finally in his arms meant nothing to him.
