A God's Unwanted Favor

Summary:

Seawatt can't seem to shove away his feelings for Evbo, and Evbo can't seem to stop yearning for EMF. Seawatt indulges Evbo in a conversation that goes too far.

Notes:

This was finished three months after the start of writing and this summary is written at god knows what unholy hour it is right now
i have a midterm tomorrow, no idea what a healthy sleep/school schedule looks like, and spite as motivation. enjoy

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

EMF was gone once again. Evbo sighed, floating lazily above as he watched EMF work with the civilians of Parkour Civilization and busy himself with Champion duties. The world was healing, one rule change at a time, and EMF was the main reason for that.

The moment that he was made in charge of the civilization, he wasted no time in making drastic changes to it, putting up polls and suggestion boxes as to what the civilians wanted. He even managed to pull back up the Fighter layer, the fighters mostly revived and slowly readjusting to life as a citizen of Parkour Civilization again. The libraries were also saved, and most of the Fighter layer was dedicated to preserving and archiving the history that those texts held. All in the span of just a few months.

Evbo couldn’t help but feel proud of his champion, as he observed EMF from the skies above. To the rest of the world, Evbo didn’t exist. Well, everyone except one person in particular.

“Oh my god,” Evbo groaned, recognizing the sarcasm dripping from the statement, “It’s like watching a cringy romcom. Go talk to him, or something, don’t make me suffer watching this shit.” Evbo turned around to look at the unamused man, giving him an eye roll.

“Yeah yeah, whatever you say, man. It’s just-” Seawatt caught the quick glance Evbo gave the ravenette below them, and his heart wrenched just a bit more, “He’s always so busy, I don’t… It’s selfish if I ask him to take time away and hang out.” Seawatt rolled his eyes, strolling over and settling idly next to the god as they watched the scenery underneath. There was still a wariness between them, with Evbo still not trusting the man that had almost wiped his entire civilization off the face of Earth, and Seawatt-

Well, Seawatt not seemingly able to get over this stubborn infatuation with a certain blond god. He didn’t even know why Evbo saved him, really. All he knew was that it was on the request of EMF, and that something glitched during the revival, leaving him stuck as a ghost, with only Evbo (and occasionally EMF, when Evbo extended his god vision to him) able to see Seawatt at all.

Evbo sighed again, and Seawatt instinctively smacked him in the shoulder. The hand went through the god, as always, but Evbo reacted all the same, drawing his hand back and glaring offendedly at the man.

“What the hell, Seawatt? What was that for?” Seawatt just pointed a finger in front of Evbo’s face.

“Sigh like that again and I will find a way to make that connect. Really, just-” Seawatt dragged a hand down his face, glowering at the god, “Talk. To. Him. it’s been weeks since you- well, revived is a strong word- brought me back, and at this point I feel like the only reason you keep me around is to watch this- this torture.” Seawatt frowned as he watched several thoughts flicker through Evbo’s mind, before Evbo turned to him with a (very fake) smile.

“Well then, entertain me! That way I can get him off my mind, you know? Wanna drink?”

“Can I even consume liquid? Scratch that, can you even get drunk?” Seawatt watched quizzically as Evbo summoned wine glasses out of thin air and poured himself a drink, pausing only for a split second to ponder over Seawatt’s question, promptly dumping a glass of champagne on Seawatt in lieu of an answer. Which then splashed all over Seawatt, leaving the man spluttering indignantly and Evbo chuckling to himself.

“Well I guess that’s a yes to the first one, right?” Evbo finished pouring drinks and offered one delicately over to Seawatt, who paused in his furious attempts to get the wine out of his shirt and hair. The god only flashed him an innocent smile as he glowered back. Seawatt scoffed, abandoning the attempts to clean himself and gingerly grabbed the glass from Evbo, as if it would phase through his hand at any moment. “Come on, get comfy, you’re going to need a lot of stories to keep me entertained.”

It took two glasses of wine for Evbo to start slurring his speech patterns and three for him to become sufficiently clingy to the point where he was practically laying on top of Seawatt instead of sitting next to him. Seawatt shifted uncomfortably, not used to the feeling of being touched after months of being a ghost. There was silence, and then Evbo buried his head into Seawatt’s side, pulling him closer, and sighed contently.

“This is nice, EMF.” The name jerked Seawatt back to reality. There was no universe where Evbo was his, no universe where he stood a chance. Seawatt gently started untangling himself from Evbo, causing the blonde god to give him a look of confusion. “Why’r-”

“You know why, Evbo. I’m not EMF. He’s not here. You’re drunk, you should go sleep it off.” Evbo whined, wrapping his arms around Seawatt once more.

“But you feel so comfyyy. And I know that you like me, in some way.” Seawatt froze for a few seconds, before he roughly pushed Evbo away, less gentle this time, face contorting with emotion. It settled on stony, as he gave a sharp glance at Evbo.

“Stop. You don’t get to play with my emotions like this. You know this isn’t right. You don’t-” his voice hitched, and he finally looked away, eyes catching a hint of black in the distance and he followed it, eagerly tracking the Champion as he went about his day, “You want him. Not me. Don’t try to distract yourself with me. Don’t you dare try to use me like that again. I should have never-” His throat burned, and he dryly laughed as he reeled back in his emotions. He dragged a hand over his face, giving himself a moment before looking back at Evbo, giving him a morose smile. “I’m so stupid; keep making the same mistakes. All you damn Champions are the same. I’m not falling for that again.”

He got up after that, pace fast as he tried to hold back the tears.

Notes:

This was started because a friend of mine, and I quote, "saw an AU where Evbo falls in love with EMF but EMF is super busy so Evbo accidentally kissed Seawatt while delirious to 'fill the void', and Seawatt knows about it but he keeps indulging bc Seawatt is in love with Evbo" and this is what my brain cooked up. No it is not at all what the original prompt was, but its still angst adjacent and pining so whatever

I have too many wips and no one to show them to so i might as well get at least one out before the fandom dies/the ccs come out as horrible people (i am not traumatized, this is talking about no fandom in specific)
