Normally, having these four together would end disastrously. The French guns have more issues between them than you’d ever signed up to deal with when you became a Master— and you’re quite tired of it, by now.
In your room (chosen for privacy, size, and to emphasize just who’s in charge) with the four of them, the energy couldn’t be tenser.
Charleville is hovering anxiously, wringing his hands as his gaze flits back and forth between the other three. Tabatiere has seated himself at your desk chair, lax posture not quite matching the tension in his shoulders, and hasn’t opened his eyes in a while. Chassepot is bold enough to have perched on your bed; he’s glaring at nothing in particular, pointedly refusing to meet the eyes of the one person who’s easily the most agitated of them all.
Gras. He’s occupied the space closest to the door, and with his arms crossed over his chest, the nasty look on his face lingers somewhere between indignant fury and something like nervousness.

Gras suffers through a punishment, and has a very bad time of it.

There’s something in your trap. As you get closer to where you laid the thing the day before, you hear a faint rustling. Something is caught.
Reasonably, what you’re expecting is some kind of animal. A fox, maybe, or some other unfortunate creature that took a step in just the wrong place. Depending on what it is, you might be lucky today. If its pelt is worth something for sale, skinning it will make you a profit, after all.
But the closer you get to where you laid it a couple of days ago, the more apparent it becomes that this isn’t normal. The rustling noises are much too loud for a small animal to cause, even if it was struggling with all its strength. And by the time you start hearing whines that sound nothing at all like any animal in the area you know, you’re sure something’s wrong.
And then, you make it to the small sort of half-clearing you’d left the trap in, and find that your suspicions were correct— that’s no animal.

Hybrid Au!Springfield is rescued by Reader (kind of), who does a terrible job of being a decent human being... right up until he's so pitiful they can't fight the guilt.
