Oh how wrong he'd been. He had lost him to his family's darkness long before that obituary in the Daily Prophet declared him dead. He doesn't expect to recognize pieces of him when he finally manages to gather the strength to clear out his room for the Order. Summary
The heroes had lost. Everyone could see it crystal clear now that Tomura Shigaraki was seconds away from wiping out the city with a single hand, along with all the heroes around. The one battle that they couldn’t afford to lose was going to end with dust. There would be nothing left.
In Hawks’ mind, he had it coming. He had failed to finish his mission properly, getting overwhelmed by his emotions when the moment came to betray Twice. He had failed to save his colleagues. He had failed to kill Dabi, the man he loved and who now wanted him dead. He had given up on the one thing that brought a genuine smile on his face.
As Shigaraki lowered himself to the ground, seconds away from using his decaying power, Hawks for the first time, resigned himself to die. There wasn’t anything left he could do.
At least, he thought so until a wave of heat and blue flames erupted around him.
The strangest thing was, it didn’t burn.
